Why Should You Inspect PCB’s With UV Light?

by David K. on August 31, 2012

Wave Plus UV Magnifier

Here at All-Spec Industries, we carry a few UV magnifiers, microscopes, and video inspection systems, but you may wonder why you would need them for PCB inspection. While normal magnifiers and microscopes can help find issues with soldering or physical damage, UV lights are often used to check PCB’s conformal coating.

A conformal coating protects PCB’s from moisture, dust, and other environmental damage by providing a chemical barrier on the board. Many conformal coatings contain a UV trace, which will glow when viewed under a UV light. Because of this, UV magnifiers and microscopes can be used to find gaps in the conformal coating, and experienced inspectors can even validate the thickness of the coating based on the intensity of the glow.

Types of Swab Tips: Microfiber | Polyvinyl

by David K. on August 27, 2012

This is final post in our three part  “Types of Swab Tips” blog series.  Today we are going to talk about Microfiber and Polyvinyl Swabs.

Microfiber and Polyvinyl Swabs Microfiber Swabs

These tips are welded to the shaft using an ultrasonic method free of adhesives. This ensures a clean tip that is low in particulates, as well as soft and non-abrasive. Microfiber swabs also have superior wipe dry characteristics.

Polyvinyl Swabs

Polyvinyl tips are very precise, allowing for pinpoint accuracy for application. The tip is also porous, allowing for picking up liquids at small targeted locations.
